How it works

What this project is testing.

A plasma ball makes electric fields visible. High voltage inside a low-pressure gas pulls electrons loose, and the gas glows where charged particles stream through it.

The experiment demonstrates ionization, electric fields, and why your hand changes the paths: your body slightly reshapes the field outside the glass, so the glowing filaments prefer that route.

E \approx \frac{V}{d}

A larger voltage over a smaller distance creates a stronger electric field, which makes ionization more likely.
