An interferometer is a ruler made out of phase. It splits light into two paths, brings the paths back together, and lets bright and dark fringes reveal tiny changes in distance.

This project builds a Michelson interferometer, the same basic idea behind some of the most important measurements in modern physics. If one path changes by a fraction of a wavelength, the interference pattern moves.
